Morning report ATCO/331 for January 1, 1945

Record of events:
One of Mine Plt moved out from Biron to 3/4 mi SE of Fisenne at 1915, 31 Dec 44 to assest 308th Engrs. in laying mine field. During the progress of laying minefields (English Mines) one or two of the mines were accidently detonated, causin
g the death to Pfc Werley and wounding T/Sgt Keller, Tec/5 Mitter, Pfc Owens, Cantwell, Parker and Glass, also killing 4 Engrs and wounding 11.
Cause of accident unknown. Lesson learned to be more careful with foreign equipment and mines. Accident occured at approximately 2230. Tec/5 Nelson, Pfc Slice, Sgt Millsap and Lt. Dempsey helped to give aid to wounded men and see that they were evacuated. They returned to CO C.P. at approximately 0015, 1 Jan 45. at approximately 0830 1 Jan 45 Lt Dempsey returned with the remainder of the mine plt to the area and finished mine field.
Village of Soy where 2nd Plt were set up in position was heavily shelled and at 0030 a shell hit the building about 40 yds from the 2nd gun squad and wounded Pf
c Lambert, C.C. first aid was given by the squad leader and evacuated through 2nd Bn aid sta.
Co alerted to move. Quartering party moved out at 1130 to secure assembly areas. Time of move to be announced. Co served New Years dinner. Weather Fair, Morale: High
