Morning report C/331 for December 18, 1944
Station: 1/4 mile north-west of Gey, Germany1, wF0739
Record of events:
On 16 Dec 44 our Company had a forward evacuation aid station in operation at our rear C.P. Rear C.P. in close proximity to forward position so we could supply the men better. This aided in serving all men and in evacuating the wounded. Area shelled intermittently all yesterday, but little last night. After working all night, last night removing mines from the road, a tank still hit one. Later our jeep likewise hit two, the driver was not hurt. The roads are now clear o our forward positions. Also discovered and marked an additional A-P mine field today. Our men passed thru a chain of hasty A-P mine fields, fortunately we suffered few casualties. Company occupied positions on objective and Hill 5, improved positions for better defence and cover. We operated two waarming dugouts at the rear C.P. giving all the men a chance to warm up, put on dry clothing, clean sox and had the medics inspect feet. We provided a few extra smokes and cofee, improving morale as a whole considerably. Regtl C.O. and Bn C.O. have placed a C.P. in our area for it has excellent observation of the several cities in the distance. There was Jerry plane activity during the night in our area. In the distance, close at that, we could see our bombers which had razed some of the big industrial plants along the Roer River. We turned in several men for Silver Star Awards, de to outstanding action in the last few days. Our prisoners total, for two days, about 100. Our casualties light, Germany since Gey, approx 90 killed, or wounded in our sector. Enemy air activity overhead practically each night. Our A-A knocked out two last night while they were bombing and strafing troops and tanks. Today Jerry planes dropped A-P mines, but our planes came in and knocked down tow Jerry planes. Intermittant heavy shelling during day, but no casualties. The coordinated attacks were well executed and much credit is due to all the men of Company C. Every man did his job well. All available HQs men were used to carry ammo.
