Silver Star Medal awarded posthumously for gallantry in action and complete disregard for personal safety displayed on July 14, 1944 in France. Full citation...
For distinguishing himself by gallantry in action on 14 July 1944, near ******, France. When enemy tanks were holding up the advance of the battalion, Private First Class Cambras volunteered as a member of an anti-tank team to undertake to knock them out. In order to enable the other members of the team to cross an open ruad unnoticed, Private First Class Cambras drew the enemy fire upon himself. By this heroic devotion to duty he contributed materially to the progress of the battalion. The conspicuous bravery and initiative of this enlisted man reflect the highest credit on himself and the finest traditions of the military service. Entered military service from Connecticut.
