| Rudy Zamula, original member of the 83rd Signal Company remembers the following
on Harold Taylor: I heard of Harold's death shortly after the event. I was told that Harold and several other 83rd Signal GI's saw some German soldiers across a canal, presumably guarding a military hospital. The story was that they would get a crack at the Infantry experience as the war ended. As Signal linemen, we were sometimes shot at or exposed to artillery fire, but we didn't get a chance to shoot back. We had carbines, but most of the time we left them on the 1/4 ton pickup truck. Unfortunately, the German snipers hit first. From the 83rd Signal Unit Journal for May 1945: May 7. Pfc Harold F. Taylor awarded the Bronze Star Medal Posthumously for meritorious service per General Order Number 87, Hqs 83rd Infantry Division dated 3 May 1945. The complete commendation can be seen here.
