Additional information
The 331st Casualty Report (page 2, #24) for 1944 lists PVT Edgins as member of C Co. The morning reports confirm this. Private Edgins was a member of C Company. The morning report for November 26, 1944 on page 28 lists him joining the unit from the 79th Replacement Battalion on November 24, 1944. He is not listed in the July and August Morning Reports for C Co, 331st so he might have served with another unit before joining C Co, 331st. He might have been wounded earlier in the war as he has a Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster. Erwin Derhaag pointed me to a newspaper article from the Spartanburg Herald-Journal from 18 february 1945. From this article partially qouted: Pvt. J.D. Edgins, 27. of Campobello route 1, was killed in action in Germany on December 19, according to a message received by his brother Leroy Edgins. He had been in service since October 1942, and had been overseas since March 27, 1944. The article can be seen below.
