| S/Sgt Hackenberg is in the book Service Record World War II Fowlerville and Howell that was produced by the American Legion posts in Howell and Fowlerville, MI shortly after the war. The following is quoted from the book. Theodore Hackenberg trained at Camp Sheridan, Illinois, transferred to Seattle, Washington, then to Dutch Harbor, Aleution Islands and on to Adak, Alaska. His service caused the loss of taste and smell. His service caused the loss of taste and smell. Returned to the U.S. for treatment. Transferred to infantry at Camp Haan, California to Camp Howze, Texas, joined the 9th Army in Europe. Was one of the first to cross the Rhine. Wounded April 4, 1945 and died on the 5th.
