| Private Wieser was a member of C Company. The morning report for July 24, 1944 on pages 42 and 43 list him joining the unit from the 48th Replacement Battalion on July 20, 1944. The morning report for August 9, 1944 on page 18 lists lightly wounded in action and transferred to the 108th Evacuation Hospital on August 8, 1944. Page 24, for August 13, 1944, lists him, although with an incorrect first name, returning to duty on August 12, 1944. Page 29, for August 16, 1944, corrects the mispspelled name and withdraws him rejoining the unit. The pages can be seen below. Erwin Derhaag pointed me to a newspaper article from the The Telegraph - Herald 31 October 1944. From this article partially qouted: Sgt. Lester A. Wieser, former operator of the King of Clubs tavern, 1902 Central avenue, died of wounds received in France, his wife, Mrs. Adele Wieser, was advised by the war department in a telegram received late Monday night. The article can be seen below. Glyn Nightingale procured the helmet of Lester A Wieser. Pictures of his helmet can be seen below. |
