| Special Orders #176 from HQ Ft. Oglethorpe lists Private First Class Gilbert as a member of the original cadre for the 331st Infantry Regiment. He was transferred from B Company, 3rd Cavalry as a Sergeant. His original assignment was Section Leader (MOS 652) and he became a Squad Leader (MOS 653) in E Company of the newly formed 331st Infantry Regiment. The relevant part can be seen below.
