First Lieutenant Blake was a member of L Company. The morning report for October 8, 1944 on page 9 lists him relieved from command of the company and retured to duty as the executive officer. The morning report for December 7, 1944 on page 8 lists him as killed in action on December 6, 1944.

Erwin Derhaag provided both a picture and a newspaper article that states:

1st Lt. William Fred Blak, who had been in the Army more than 10 years, was killed in action Dec. 6 in Germany with the 83d Division, which trained at Camp Atterbury. He previously had received the Purple Heart for wounds suffered July 5 in France.

Lt. Blake, the husband of Avolyn Blake, 3547 North DeQuincy Street, was born and reared in Brooklyn, NY.[...]
