For gallantry in action on 16 July 1944, near *****, France. Lieutenant MacZinko volunteered to lead a squad of men against an entrenched enemy machine gun squad which was fighting a delayed action. Fully cognizant of the great risk involved, but with complete disregard for self, he valorously led the assault against the enemy position and destroyed it. In the course of the action Lieutenant MacZinko was killed. His heroic courage, complete devotion to duty, and inspired leadership reflect the finest traditions of the armed forces of the United States. Entered military service from Washington. |
