| The book Normandy to victory: the war diary of General Courtney H. Hodges and the First U.S. Army says the following: Samuel L. Krauthoff (18 Dec 1902 - 1 Feb 1945) USMA 1924, Field Artillery. Krauthoff was the Eighty-third’s chief of staff from 1944 to 1 Feb 1945, when he was killed in an accident at Hamoir, Belgium. See this link for the reference. The author notes that the middle initial should probably be V from Vance instead of L. |
